This was my first public unveiling in 1997 and this was as exciting for me as it was for everyone else because I had felt I made it to a NEW level in my career. Although I have been painting since a very early age, and diligently working at building my skill as a portrait painter/artist, I found myself a little more worthy to refer to myself as a "REAL" artist once I found myself unveiling a portrait for a public commission.
This was a portrait unveiling of Angelo Turbesi, who was the founder of a town park in Blackstone, MA. This affair was part of a celebration to commemorate 25 years of Turbesi's devotion to children to have a safe and fun place to play and have sport events. All of Turbesi's family members, friends, co-workers, and parks and recreation staffers came together for the event.
I was happy to participate in this celebration that also included me doing a speech and claiming this loving man as being "THE GRANDFATHER OF BLACKSTONE", because he was so deeply loved by every child that knew him.
